“Is this really the same song?”
──This album also includes “Happiness of the Dead (Sasuke Haraguchi Remix)”. What was your impression when you first heard it?
Shui:I was surprised that it was completely different from the original song. The original song has a crying and laughing energy that feels like “sprinting towards the end'', but Mr. Haraguchi's remix is very cool, fashionable, and heartwarming (lol). It felt like a completely different song. I think that's what a remix is, and I was like, “Huh? Is this really the same song?” (laughs)
──I understand. I felt that the atmosphere of the singing voice was also completely different.
Shui:I think remixes usually use existing vocals, but this time I actually re-recorded the vocals. The way he sings is completely different, and I think it gives a completely different impression to the listener.
── Hey! That's why the singing voice has a new feel to it. Have you ever been conscious of it when you sing?
Shui:I had a strong image of the original song in my mind, so at first I sang it lightly. However, Mr. Haraguchi's remix version was difficult because he had to sing each word as if pushing them out, and the rhythm was unique. But I feel like I was able to show a completely new look. It feels like a club.

──This is a sound unique to Haraguchi.
Shui:Mr. Haraguchi has many famous songs such as “Hitomania”. I was truly honored to have such a person remix it for me. If the song is going to be this different, I would like to make various versions.
──The number of collaborations has been increasing recently. Are there any creators you would like to work with in the future or genres you would like to try?
Shui:Up until now, I've often sang songs that have a lot of ups and downs, so next time I'd like to try songs that are a little more calm. For example, I'd like to try some chill songs. Speaking of the previous album, it was like “Reishunka” (Music by Yuuri Kuriyama)…that kind of jazzy song. Also, in terms of people I'd like to collaborate with, I love cadode. I love the lyrics, the music, the artwork, and have a lot of respect for them. I've been to his live performances several times, and I'd be happy if we could do something together someday.
──I really hope it comes true. Speaking of dreams, I was previously interviewed by Isekai2nd and asked about “3 things I'd like to try,'' and one of them was “Yakiniku by myself.''
Shui:Hahahaha, is that so?! It still hasn't come true…! I think I'll go today (lol). But I went to a hot spring on a solo trip. It feels good to be alone after all.
──Shuyui-san likes spending time alone.
Shui:I quite like it. If I could be alone, I would like to be alone forever. I don't usually spend much time at home, so I'm really happy if I can just relax in the morning. I think, “Oh, this is my ideal life.'' When I go outside, I feel like I'm being thrown into an “alien space'' or a world that I'm not a part of.
──In such a situation, I think that music is also a way to connect with the “outside world”, but how do you feel about it?
Shui:That's also fun. Although I like alone time, I also love people. While doing this job, I have the opportunity to meet various people, including Vocaloid P and others. I'm especially close to all the members of Vocaloid P, and they sometimes invite me to barbecues. I'm really happy. It's the best time in my life (lol). There are relationships that have expanded through work and singing, and I've made friendships that I never imagined.
──“Friendship”!
Shui:…Ah, I didn't mean to say anything too nice, but I was able to connect with you (lol).
Shuyui's analysis of Shuyui's uniqueness
──What do you think is the “Shui-ness” that you were able to express in this work?
Shui:Hmm, that's difficult (lol). When I think about what it means to be unique, I think that the sadness that naturally oozes into my voice is a reflection of who I am. “Inferia'' is based on Telenezza, but the parts that “cry out love'' overlap with my own feelings. I sang this song empathizing with her suffering and struggle, and wanting to help her in any way I could. Doesn't Telenezza “want to be loved”? I like Telenezza, and there are parts of the song where I sang about her wanting to be loved and wanting to love her properly. I feel that the coexistence of such “sadness'' and “deep affection'' is the closest to who I am. In particular, I think that “affection'' is a big part of Shuyui's personality.
──There were many scenes in the song where I felt that Shui-san herself was a very warm-hearted person. You said before that you often write letters to people, but that can't be done without love. Is it because you value the people around you?
Shui:I really love people. If you like someone, the other person will often like you too. I feel like it's a miracle. That's why I think my life is the best (lol). I want to continue to value the importance of “loving people,'' and I believe that this is my purpose in life.
──When I heard what you just said, I thought I should follow your example. Lastly, I would like to ask about your future activities. I will be holding my first one-on-one live with Tsuki Natsume on December 21st (Sunday) later this year. What kind of live performance do you think it will be?
Shui:It's almost like a “fight” (lol). There will be a daytime performance and an evening performance, and Pantasia from March will be a guest for the night performance, so it will be like a three-person group, but each of them has their own individuality and singing ability, and the genres they specialize in and the quality of their voices are completely different. I think it will be a live show where everyone will really clash with each other, just like a “fight”. It looks like it's going to explode in a good way.
──That's your last live show of the year, right?
Shui:yes. It's already the end of the year… Actually, I just noticed that my major debut was supposed to be in 2022 (lol). It felt like it happened just recently, so I was surprised to think that it had been over two years.

──Please let us know if you have any resolutions for next year.
Shui:I have a desire to “become even better” in terms of singing. I feel like my singing skills have improved this year, and I feel like I've grown a little. I want to refine it even more next year. Also, I have a clear goal in mind, and whether or not I can achieve it, I would like to go on tour if possible. A lot of our fans are from Hokkaido, and recently I've started thinking, “I want to go and meet the kids from Hokkaido.'' I don't know why it's so common in Hokkaido, but I wonder if there's something in Shui's music that is directly connected to the cold weather… That's why I thought it would be great if we could perform live in Hokkaido, Nagoya, and Osaka. It's not the so-called “Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka” (lol).
──You mentioned that your singing has improved, but what kind of changes did you notice over the past year?
Shui:Actually, I moved on January 1st of this year. I wanted to refresh myself, so I moved to a completely different area. My house and room are new, and the people I meet and the places I go to have changed. The sudden change in my environment made me feel more at ease, or rather, it was a very refreshing year. I didn't expect it to change so much, but when the scenery you see changes, your mood changes quickly. I feel like that is reflected in the songs as well. Up until now, I feel like I've been a bit “small”, but I've been able to sing as much as I want. Also, my voice trainer has changed, and the content he teaches has also changed. The way I speak has changed a little. Thanks to that, I feel like I've been able to sing in a way that gives me a feeling of being radiated.
──When “Inferia” is performed at the next live performance, it looks like we'll be able to hear Shui-san's even more updated singing voice.
Shui:“Inferia” is a song that can be sung with emotion, so the difficulty level is actually not that high. It's just fun to sing. When we performed it live for the first time, it hadn't been released yet, so I wasn't able to sing the part that everyone was singing, but I'm sure everyone will sing along with me the next time I perform it. I'm really looking forward to that.
