Amazon Prime Video adds the new Nintama Rantarō movie


The platform Amazon Prime Video has added to its catalog Nintama Rantarō: Invincible Master of the Dokutake Ninja (Gekijō-ban Nintama Rantaro Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyō no Gunshi), the first film in the franchise Nintama Rantaro in 13 years. The feature film is available with japanese audio and english subtitles.

The film was released in Japan on December 20 and raised a cumulative total of $22.18 million at the global box office.

A story based on the novel by Kazuhisa Sakaguchi

The plot adapts the novel of the same name by Kazuhisa Sakaguchi published in 2013, in which Rantarō's teacher, Hansuke Doiloses a fight against Sonnamon and Zatto Konnamon takes on the role of teacher at the Ninjutsu Academy.

Masaya Fujimoriknown for directing films Doraemonresumes his role as director after the previous installment, working again with the animation studio Ajia-doalso responsible for the television series. The script was written by Sakaguchi himself.

More than three decades of ninja adventures

The last film in the franchise, Gekijō-ban Anime Nintama Rantaro Ninjutsu Gakuen Zenin Shutsudō! Don't Danpremiered in March 2011. Currently, the 33rd season of the television anime began on March 31while the 32nd was broadcast in April 2024.

The original work, the manga Rakudai Ninja Rantarō of Soubee Amakotells the adventures of Rantarō, a young apprentice at a prestigious ninjutsu academy in historical Japan. Together with their friends, also students, they form the group of “Nintama“, contraction of “ninja” and “tamago” (“egg”).

Classic that lives on even stronger

The manga inspired the television anime in 1993, which still airs on the channel NHK-E in 10-minute episodes each weekday. In addition, the franchise has two anime films and two live-action films, the first of the latter being directed by Takashi Miike.
