“Tokyo Karasoni” Interview with Shoya Chiba & Yuto Uemura | Isekai2nd

“Tokyo Color Sonic!!” is youth entertainment written by Buddy who is a “singer” and “composer”. Since the first season was released in 2021, a delicate story depicting the conflicts, growth, and bonds of the characters has been woven through song production.

The new series “Tokyo Color Sonic!! -Hajime Oto-” will start from April 2025, and will be streamed for free every Wednesday at 9pm on official YouTube! The daily life of the characters facing music production, which has never been depicted before, is depicted.

It has also been decided that “Goods with Hajime Oto Drama Serial'' will be released, which includes the main drama that is also available on YouTube. It also comes with a “newly recorded sound source'' that can only be heard here.

Furthermore, a new song series with the theme of “love” “Tokyo Color Sonic!! “Sugar Pop” has also started. A total of 7 songs, including 5 solo songs and 2 Karasoni's first unit songs, have been released for 5 consecutive months.

A set with goods that also comes with a song download serial code is also on sale! The Animate early reservation benefit also includes a serial code for applying for a ticket advance lottery for “Tokyo Color Sonic!! Special Live ~Sugar Pop~ (Sonirai 4th)” to be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

This time, we interviewed Shoya Chiba, who plays Arashi Komiyama, and Yuto Uemura, who played Sora Kirishima, who have finished recording “Hajime Oto”! We asked him about “Hajime Oto,'' which is a series that is different from the previous ones.

The “beginning sound” that reminds you of the beginning of the story

──Please tell us your impressions when you read the script for the “Hajime no Oto” series.

Mr. Shoya Chiba (hereinafter referred to as Chiba):Before reading the script, I first read the explanation that there are two timelines. I was surprised to find that it was structured like this, as I expected it to proceed from the students' point of view as usual.

I quickly realized that the teachers who remain at the academy and the graduates who left the academy see the world differently. I was happy to see that the perspective of the teachers who have been watching over Arashi and the others was strongly portrayed.

The other two are from “STRANGE LAD.” I think both of them are characters whose lines clearly reflect what happened during their school days, so I was personally happy to be able to actually see what they looked like back then. There have been many stories like Arashi's ex-Yang, Mirai's past, etc., but I was happy to see the episode about how these two made this decision in high school and entered Ironoha Music Academy at this time, and I felt that the overall structure was unexpected.

Rather than having a so-called “gaiden” feel, there were many pinpoint episodes that were more specific, such as Arashi and Sora depicting “Sora's state in the midst of not deciding on the lyrics,” so I thought it was very Karasoni-like. Each episode is independent yet connected, and I finished reading it in no time.

Mr. Yuto Uemura (hereinafter referred to as Uemura):The content reminded me of my early days, and it brought back a lot of memories. In the beginning, it felt like both Sora and Arashi were just saying “this is how I am'' to each other rather than caring about the other person. From this kind of exchange where we say, “This is how I am as a musician,'' we gradually begin to see the person's personality, and the song is created. I felt that our relationship was completely different from our current relationship.

Each of us has grown internally, but it's simply because we've spent so much time together that the atmosphere of our conversations has deepened. I'm still full of dreams and hopes, but I feel like they've gotten darker. I thought this was definitely “Karasoni''.

──After recording this time, did you notice any changes in terms of growth or depth compared to when you first recorded it?

Chiba:Arashi is a character that really reflects your own mind at the moment you're playing it. That's why I don't really have the idea of “going back in time'' consciously. I've played a variety of roles so far, but even though I've done episodes from the past, I've never had to do the work of “returning my mind to the past'' to this extent.

When I looked back at my performance from a few years ago, I felt that the “body'' I was using was different. Lately, Arashi's voice has become softer, so it was difficult for him to regain the sharp, angry way he used to express things that only came out in the moment. However, as the season progressed, I got the impression that Arashi's hardness loosened due to his respect for others, so this time it felt like that process was reversed. I feel like this drama struck just the right balance.

For example, in the scene with Iori, it was really easy to act like I acted happy because “I have respect for Iori.'' In that way, there were a lot of parts where I could remember the feelings I had back then, based on the relationships with other characters.

As for Shunhi, when I read the script in writing, I thought a little, “Wow, I wonder if Shunhi was able to handle it this well?'' or “Have Shunhi been this good at rolling it in his hands since back then?'' But I realized that it was because I was automatically replaying the current relationship between the two of them in my mind.

If Arashi and Shunhi were the way they are now, I could dance in the palm of my hand in a very comical way, but back then, Arashi hadn't finished dancing yet, and Shuntobi wasn't that interested in Arashi, so he probably wouldn't be able to do it. By being conscious of that sense of distance, I was able to make ends meet. If you start thinking in terms of the relationships between people after they become friends, things inevitably don't make sense.

Uemura:As expected, my impression changed greatly when Sora was explored in the drama. When I received the script, I realized that the part where I treat everyone equally was actually the opposite of my weakness. As the story was unraveled in this way, I think my level of understanding increased. In terms of how I approach things, as I read songs like “Sonirai'' to each other, I felt like I was able to connect more and more with the sky and myself.

I think if the cast and characters can blend together, including those opportunities, it will become even more interesting. At some point, I felt like it naturally fit in with me, so from there I thought it would be best to just act based on my emotions. Sora in particular has a lot of sad and heartrending parts, even though it's full of joy, anger, sorrow, and sadness, so I gradually shifted to not overdoing it, but trying to make it sound more instinctive.

It was also great that she was paired with Eternal in the 2nd episode. It was there for the first time that I felt like I was exposing something deep within the universe. In that story, I felt that there was a human aspect to him, and I think it became easier to see Sora Kirishima's resolution from various angles.

──Were there any scenes or lines that particularly stuck in your mind?

Chiba:We talked a little about it during the free talk, and the scene where Sora said that the lyrics of “NEW DEVIATION” are similar to his own was very impressive. I myself thought those lyrics were completely for Arashi. At this point in time, I felt like he couldn't show Arashi his weaknesses, and I think Arashi's words in response to that were the best way he could have dealt with it at the time.

I probably would be able to explain it better in words now, but I think it was a valuable scene because they didn't know each other completely yet, and they had a fluffy relationship. It was fun to play. I think Arashi is an honest person who doesn't let noise get into his feelings of “I want to be kind to this person.''

Uemura:This drama was structured to supplement and flesh out parts of each timeline that hadn't been portrayed before, so in a sense everything was fresh and impressive. I don't feel like I'm wearing too much, and I like how it feels like it's not too much or too little. I'm glad I was able to do it at this timing.

It's something that even people who are new to the show can listen to, and I think they'll find themselves asking again, “What kind of drama was there between the two of them at that time?''

──On the other hand, were there any parts that were difficult to play this time?

Chiba:If I had to say it, it's the line at the stadium just before Karasoni. I was wondering if I should go back and listen to the past recordings, but when I listened to them, the direction of the “blueness” was completely different from what I had imagined (lol).

At that time, Arashi seemed to those around him to be “really young,'' but he himself was completely unaware of the fact that he was immersed in that situation. That unconscious feeling was something I couldn't remember unless I listened back to it, so I listened back to the sound source on set before performing it.

──As the timeline went back, was there a moment when you remembered the recording at that time or your own performance?

Chiba:For example, I think it would be possible to do a simple “reprint'' such as redoing an episode depicting the relationship with the father or a fight scene, because I remember how it was performed. But this time, in order to act out my reactions to past events, I had to remember what I was at the core of at the time.

Uemura:When I first started working on it, I was unsure of what to do. At first, he's a more innocent and fluffy character, but he's also an outrageous character, so there are times when I look down at him and think, “Is he okay?”, but now I've come to understand more and more that “that's all in the air, isn't it?” I think this is due to the accumulation of things up until now.

──Were there any memorable episodes or incidents during recording?

Chiba:I was recording alone today, so there weren't any particular incidents, but… In the title call of each episode, (Yusho) Uemura-kun (of the pair) added the guide's voice, “Seno,'' to make it easier to record, but I'm really bad at saying “Seno.''

It is no exaggeration to say that this is my least favorite line. To begin with, I don't say it while I'm alive, and I don't know if I'll say it in my character's voice or in person. In the end, all 10 of the titles I recorded ended up saying “Seno” in different ways, and I thought to myself, “It would be easier for Uemura-kun to do this without “Seno”…”

I'm not good at saying the title call in a matter-of-fact way, so I end up putting meaning into it. That's why “Seno” is so lame. This time, it became clear to me that I'm not good at it (lol).

Uemura:Souma (Saito)-kun recorded the title call for April Fool's Day's “Bocchan and Butler'' as a guide, and it's really funny when a good voice comes unexpectedly (lol). I wanted to hear from everyone!

──Please tell us about the points and highlights of the 5th series that you would like the fans to pay particular attention to.

Chiba:There was a fact that Oshiro entered the school because he admired Arashi, but it was never specifically depicted in which scene or with what kind of emotion he felt. I was also happy to see that Arashi, just being Arashi, moved Oshiro's heart so much this time.

I think it takes a lot of strength for Oshiro, who is good at playing basketball and studying, to face music that he has never done before, but I think the portrayal of Oshiro's conflict made it even more convincing. The storm that has always said it would “change the world” has already begun to change one person's world. I want you to pay attention to that.

Uemura:As for Sora, there are slight differences in the atmosphere of the conversation with Arashi depending on the time series, so I think it will be more enjoyable if you listen while keeping in mind, “Oh, this is after that incident.'' This drama is complete, but I think you'll want to go back and listen to each series of works again.

Another point of note is that it also depicts the story of Miyazono-kun and Oshiro before they came to Ironoha Music Academy. I especially thought it was amazing that Oshiro speaks in dialect in 90% of the scenes in this story.

After watching the drama, I think each character's final greeting is in their own words, so I would be happy if you could experience that series of journeys through this drama.

──Finally, please give a message to everyone reading this article that will make them want to listen to Karasoni!

Chiba:“Even if you don’t know the story, I think you can enjoy it just by listening to the interactions between the characters!”

Uemura:“It smells human!”
