Japanese couple discovers they are brothers before getting married

In daily life, situations occur that seem straight out of a movie, and this Japanese couple is the perfect example. After meeting casually and building a solid relationship that ended in marriage, both ran into a documentary obstacle that revealed an unexpected relationship.

The unexpected turn occurred when they were preparing for the official paperwork of their union. By gathering the necessary documents, they discovered that, despite having been raised by different grandparents, there was a direct link that made them blood relatives through the paternal line.

The bond that was forged in a classroom

The initial meeting between Shinji (29, real name) and Mizuki (27, real name) took place in an English class, where they became classmates and soon inseparable. A key factor that united them from the beginning was that they were both raised by their grandparents, not knowing their biological parents. This shared experience generated an immediate affinity that led them to formalize their relationship with marriage last year.

The document that changed everything

The couple's happiness stopped short when reviewing their respective family registration records, the Koseki Touhonrequired for formal registration. Both noticed that, although their maternal surnames were different, the record indicated the same surname of the head of the family. This meant that they shared the same father. The information revealed that the father married Shinji's mother, adopted her, and after her premature death, married Mizuki's mother, whom he also adopted, with his second wife dying shortly after.

Despite the law and the social implications that this discovery entails, the couple decided to move forward with their life together, strengthening their bond by deciding to take care of each other more than ever, since legally there is no direct consanguinity due to having been adopted.

Do you think this story of complex destiny will strengthen their long-term commitment?
