The romantic comedy Kanojo, Okarishimasu (also known as Rent-a-Girlfriend) continues to surprise fans, but this time not because of its plot, but because of its author. In the most recent chapters, Kazuya appears with a completely renewed appearance. Within the story, the change responds to the fact that he is looking for work and wants to project a new image. However, it didn't take long for fans to notice the resemblance to himself. Miyajima: same smile, hairstyle and expression. The coincidence ignited the networks, and many claim that the mangaka “inserted himself” into his work to live a romance with his main character, Chizuru Mizuhara.

An obsession that comes from afar

This is not the first time that the author of Kanojo, Okarishimasu gives something to talk about because of his fixation with Chizuru. In the past, Miyajima has published illustrations and comments that show him imagining romantic scenarios with the manga's heroine, even portraying himself as her partner in everyday situations. Some see it as an advertising strategy, while others consider that it has crossed the line between fiction and reality.

Between love and controversy

Reiji Miyajima, married and a family man, has never hidden his admiration for Chizuru, but his apparent self-insertion into the manga has divided the community. While some take it with humor and see it as a display of creative passion, others criticize it for feeding an increasingly strange narrative in a series that has already published more than 400 chapters. Even so, everything seems to indicate that the author remains determined to make Kanojo, Okarishimasu the most personal—and controversial—romance of his career.

Do you think Reiji Miyajima is playing with his readers or is he really in love with his own creation?
