After a long wait, the time has finally come to tell this story in animated format. The official website of the project has been opened confirming that the manga Akane-banashicreated by Yuki Suenaga and Takamasa Mouewill have an anime adaptation that will premiere in the year 2026.
Details of the production team behind
Along with the announcement, a teaser trailer and a promotional image that reveals part of the main cast and details of the production team:
- Akane Osaki will be performed by Anna Nagase (Natsuko in ZENSHU).
- Karashi Nerimaya will have the voice of Takuya Eguchi (Loid in SPY x FAMILY).
- Hikaru Koragi will be interpreted by Rie Takahashi (Yuzuriha in Hell's Paradise).
The direction of the series will be in charge of Ayumu Watanabe (Summer Time Rendering) in the studio ZEXCS. The script will be supervised by Michihiro Tsuchiya (Saint Cecilia & Pastor Lawrence), while the character design and animation direction will be in the hands of Kii Tanaka (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead). The soundtrack will be provided by Akio Izutsu (Akuma Kun), and as a rakugo supervisor he will participate Kikuhiko Hayashiya.
A story that pays tribute to rakugo
Akane-banashi focuses on Akanea young woman who sparks controversy by receiving informal classes Shiguma Arakawahis father's former teacher. Far from stopping, he decides to take the art of rakugo —a traditional Japanese form of oral storytelling—and begin their journey from the opening performances (zenza) until she became a leading artist (shin'uchi).
But his journey will not be easy: he must balance his school life, his relationships with Shiguma's other apprentices and, above all, demonstrate that he has the talent and determination to excel in this demanding performing art.
