Kojima Productions announced during their 10th anniversary event “Beyond the Strand” the production of a anime film based on the video game Death Stranding. The feature film will be titled Death Stranding Mosquito and was presented along with a first visual teaser and a promotional video.


An international team behind the project
The film will be directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto (Hugtto! Precure, Futari wa Precure: All Stars Memories), while the script will be written by Aaron Guzikowskirecognized for his work in Hollywood. The animation will be provided by ABC Animation Studiofor whom this will be their first official project. The film will also be a co-production with partners from the United States.
Death Stranding, a cultural phenomenon
The video game Death Stranding It debuted in November 2019 for PlayStation 4 and eventually came to PC, PS5, Apple devices, Amazon Luna, and Xbox Series X/S. The work of Hideo Kojima reached the 5 million copies sold in 2021 and surpassed 20 million players in 2025.
The saga continued with Death Stranding 2: On the Beachreleased on June 26, 2025 for PlayStation 5. The original title won three awards at the The Game Awards 2019including Best Direction, Best Score and Best Acting (Mads Mikkelsen).
One more step in the expansion of the saga
With this project, Death Stranding confirms its intention to continue expanding beyond video games. The anime film not only commemorates the anniversary of Kojima Productions, but also marks a milestone by being the first project of the newly founded ABC Animation Studio.
