Fans of “Bakugan“You finally have updates on your favorite franchise, although perhaps they are not the ones you expected. Spin Master Corp. has just confirmed that the franchise will make the leap to live-action with a film currently in development. And not only that, but it will be in the hands of Brad Peyton, the director behind “San Andreas” (2015) and “Atlas” (2024), who will be in charge of directing, writing and producing the project.
It is not yet clear if the story will be based on one of the animated series or if it will be a new version inspired by the toys, but what we do know is that the target audience will be young adults who grew up with the franchise. «Bakugan is a global saga with a multi-generational fan base that loves its characters and epic battles.» commented Jennifer Dodge, president of Spin Master Entertainment.
«Now that many of those fans are entering adulthood, we're excited to work with a director like Brad to bring Bakugan to live-action and expand the franchise for new audiences.», he continued. Peyton is also with all the hype, ensuring that her team will create «a must-see cinematic event that will do justice to the incredible world of Bakugan».
If you remember the fever of “Bakugan Battle Brawlers” in 2008, you surely know that the franchise has remained active. In 2018 it returned with “Bakugan: Battle Planet“, which lasted five seasons and totaled 169 episodes. Then, in 2023, another version was released simply titled “Bakugan“, with 26 episodes. Meanwhile, the toys continue to be a total success, with more than a billion dollars in sales since their launch.
And with the boom in nostalgic franchises like “Pokémon TCG” and the number of adults who have immersed themselves in card and collectible figure tournaments, it makes perfect sense that Spin Master wants to target that audience. For now, there is no release date for the live-action Bakugan movie, but we know that Spin Master is busy with another big project: “PAW Patrol 3”, which will arrive in 2026.
