Makeine wins important prize and Anna loses again

The literary and now television phenomenon Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!” has reached a new milestone in its rising popularity by dominating the prestigious Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2025 listing. The work, written by author Takibi Amamori and illustrated by renowned artist Imigimuru, took first place in the Light Novel category, reaffirming its position as one of the most beloved and relevant franchises of the moment.

In addition to the series being recognized as best light novel, Makeine also shined in individual categories:

  • Imigimuruwhose artistic style has been a key piece in the series' visual identity, obtained first position as Best Artist.
  • Kazuhiko Nukumizuthe introverted but endearing protagonist, was voted the Best Male Charactersurpassing characters from other prominent franchises.
  • In the category of Best Female Character, Anna Yanamithe popular classmate who embodies the figure of the “always losing” heroine, reached second position, only behind Mahiru Shiina from The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten. This win marks Shiina's fourth consecutive year at the top, cementing her legacy as a crowd favorite.

Anna Yanami's second position has been the subject of comments among fans, who consider it a perfect reflection of the main theme of the series: the constant struggle of the “losing heroines.” In Makeine, Anna is the clearest example of this theme, being a “childhood friend destined to lose,” which adds a layer of irony to the recognition.

The anime adaptation of Makeine, broadcast during Summer-2024, was a key catalyst for the franchise's growing popularity. Produced by the A-1 Pictures studio, the series stood out for its high-quality animation and its faithful representation of the characters and narrative. However, despite the resounding success, fans are still anxiously awaiting the announcement of a second season, which to date has not been confirmed.

While readers and viewers eagerly await new installments, both on paper and on screen, this franchise continues to establish itself as a work that not only tells stories about losing, but, ironically, knows how to win in the hearts of its audience.
