Reflections by the author Nagaru Tanigawa
To commemorate the announcement, the original author Nagaru Tanigawa shared an extensive message remembering the beginnings of the anime and the creative process behind the narrative structure that characterized the first season. Tanigawa recalled his first visit to Kyoto Animation in 2005, when the studio broadcast AIRand how his participation ended up being more active than he initially expected.
According to Tanigawa, his initial proposal was to adapt only the first volume, The Melancholyto create an entire season whose ending coincided with the last scene of the book. Although the staff told him that this would affect the pace, his second idea—interspersing short stories without chronological order—ended up becoming the basis of the famous broadcast order.
The author highlighted the hard work of the team in deciding the final order of the episodes and was deeply grateful that, twenty years later, Haruhi and the other characters are still present thanks to the efforts of the staff and the continuous support of the fans.
Two decades after the beginning of the franchise, this revival marks the first step of a new commemorative stage that promises more surprises for Haruhi Suzumiya fans.
