A new controversy arose on networks after the popular VTuber Baowith more than 600 thousand followers on Twitch, will harshly criticize the Japanese platform Skebdedicated to connecting artists with clients requesting illustrations, animations or custom work. However, his comment generated an unexpected official response from the site itself.
In her post, Bao expressed her annoyance that Skeb artists post commissions before clients can display them: “Artists, please ask permission before posting your finished orders… I HATE you, Skeb.” VTuber was referring to the fact that the works requested on the platform become visible on the artists' profiles, which, according to her, ruins possible revelations or personal projects.

Skeb's forceful response
Shortly after the criticism, Skeb published an extensive statement on X (Twitter), recalling that its system works under a different philosophy than Western portals. “All rights to the works on Skeb belong to the creators. Clients cannot prevent artists from publishing their works for any reason. “This notice is displayed four times before the first order is sent,” stated the message, which accumulated more than a million views.
The site also explained that Skeb is based on Japanese culture “Sukebu“, where artists produce live illustrations during doujinshi conventions.”Skeb is not a private materials market”said the company, highlighting that more than 30% of its users come from abroad and thanking those who respect its terms of service.
Finally, Skeb warned that only the company can issue warnings or sanctions for violations of its policies, and condemned any type of harassment or attacks towards those involved. Following these statements, Bao deleted his posts and has not issued additional comments.
Do you think Skeb should offer privacy options for commissions or keep its model open to support artists?
