A collector of Pokémon Trading Card Game (Pokémon TCG) lost thousands of dollars in sealed products and letters after a sewage flooding which completely destroyed his collection. The incident was reported by Reddit user Substantial-Pie-4973 in the forum r/PokemonTCGwhere he shared photos of the damage.

A collection destroyed by a domestic accident
According to his post, the leak occurred in his grandmother's basement, where he and his wife stored their belongings while they were looking for a home. A sewage pipe burst and flooded the place for three days before the incident was discovered. Among the objects affected were folders with cards, elite trainer boxes and sealed booster boxesmost of which had to be scrapped due to moisture damage.

“The insurance does not cover the real value of my collection”
The collector explained that the insurance could only offer him symbolic compensation, equivalent to the “value of the lost cardboard,” since he had not insured his collection as a high-value asset. He added that the most painful thing was the emotional loss: “Years of memories disappeared before I could blink.” In the images shared, dozens of soaked and deformed boxes can be seen, evidence of irreversible damage.

The story went viral among fans of Pokémon TCGwho expressed their support and advised other collectors to review their insurance policies and storage conditions to prevent similar tragedies.
