The Japanese hotel chain Toyoko Inn announced a curious service aimed at otaku travelers and their favorite stuffed animals. under the name “Supporting Your Oshi Activities! Overnight with Plushie Plan”hotels now offer an exclusive bed and pajamas for the stuffed animals that accompany guests during their stay.
The term “oshi” refers to a fan's favorite character or artist, and many of them travel with stuffed animals or figures as a symbol of support. With them in mind, Toyoko Inn will prepare a small resting space with pillows, sheets and pajamas made with the same materials used for human guests. They are even offered two sizes of pajamassmall and medium, to better adapt to the size of the stuffed animal.
The plan was initially tested at the branch near the Osaka Domea key spot for anime concerts and events. After receiving positive feedback, the chain confirmed its expansion to 55 locations throughout Japan. The initiative responds to the trend of solo travelers carrying stuffed animals to take photographs during their trips.
A service with a symbolic cost
The service has an additional cost of 300 yen (about $2) per night. Although it may seem like an insignificant detail, Toyoko Inn explained that the small charge adds a sense of realism, as if the stuffed animal were a second guest. The measure also seeks to make the experience more fun for travelers who enjoy personalizing their stays.
With this proposal, Toyoko Inn continues to expand its focus on otaku tourism, a sector that combines entertainment, collecting and unique experiences in Japan.
