During the New York Comic Conthe platform Duolingo presented the first trailer of his new animated project The Final Testan anime starring its iconic mascot Duo. The announcement includes the premiere date and confirms that the series will be available in the official YouTube channel of the company.

The Final Test will be a five episode miniseries of 60 seconds each, produced by Carbonero Studiothe team behind Big Mouth, Star Trek: Lower Decks and The Legend of Vox Machina. The series will be completely in Japanese and will have subtitles in several languages, including Spanish.
The trailer, presented exclusively during the convention, shows Duo and his companions in a story that combines absurd humor, action and learning. The plot focuses on the origins of the green owl and his group of “streak guardians,” in charge of keeping the students' perseverance alive within the application.

The Final Test will be released on October 13, 2025 through the Duolingo official YouTube channel. During the presentation in New York, the company distributed exclusive merchandise to attendees, including stuffed animals and pins inspired by the anime characters.

According to the official synopsis, The Final Test tells how Duo recruits a group of ordinary people to become the “guardians of the streak”, a direct reference to users' obsession with not losing their consecutive days within the application. Together, they will face trials that will test their determination and friendship.
The purpose behind anime
According to the Duolingo Marketing Director Manu Orssaudthe project seeks to “channel the global passion for anime and expand the universe of our characters in a fun, streak-obsessed, and unmistakably Duolingo way.” Additionally, the company will take advantage of the launch to promote its new, updated Japanese courses within the application.
With this initiative, Duolingo continues to mix education, pop culture and entertainment in a strategy that could mark the beginning of a new trend in the digital learning industry.
