The long-awaited second season of the new anime adaptation of Rank 1/2classic manga Rumiko Takahashialready has a confirmed release date: it will hit Japanese screens on October 4, 2025 (October 5 in Spain). The series will continue with more chaos, martial arts and romantic entanglements, faithful to the style that made it a cult work.
A review of the first season
To prepare fans before the premiere, the creators released a special video of four minutes which summarizes the most important things about the first season: from the introduction of the main characters to the most memorable battles. An ideal review for those who want to refresh their memory before diving into the new episodes.
New opening and closing themes
The second season will feature new musical themes. The opening theme, titled “Wo Ai Ni”will be interpreted by Wednesday Campanellawhile the ending, “Panda Girl”will be in charge of Nishinarecognized for her work in Dog Signal (2023).
Production details
The original manga Rank 1/2 was serialized by Shogakukan in the magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday between 1987 and 1996, accumulating a total of 38 volumes. In this new television version, MAPPA is in charge of animation, under the direction of Konosuke Ueda. Kimiko Ueno supervises the composition of the series, Hiromi Taniguchi design the characters and Kaoru Wada compose the music. The first season is currently available on Netflix.
Story that mixes romance and comedy
The story follows Ranma Saotomea young martial artist who suffers a peculiar curse: when he comes into contact with cold water he transforms into a girl, and only returns to his male form with hot water. Added to this is the promise of his father, who agreed that Ranma would marry one of the daughters of Soun Tendowhich begins an endless chain of entanglements, combats and comic situations.
