Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid exceeds 400 million yen at the box office


The official X account (formerly Twitter) of the anime Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved announced that the film has surpassed the barrier of 400 million yen (approximately $2.74 million) in collection. With this figure, the film is positioned as the twelfth highest-grossing Japanese anime film of 2025right behind The Rose of Versailleswhich accumulates 500 million yen.

A solid debut with constant growth

The feature film, which represents a completely new story within the franchise, was released last June 27 in 200 movie theaters in Japan. During its first weekend, it managed to place itself in the position number 9 from the box office. Crunchyroll will be in charge of its distribution

History of emotions and conflict between worlds

Crunchyroll describes the plot as follows: The quiet life of Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna and Iruru is interrupted when Kamun KamuiKanna's father and leader of the Forces of Chaos, breaks in to take her back to the Dragon World in order to right a past wrong. While a war between Chaos and Harmony looms, Kanna is torn between loyalty to her friends and her father's orders.

Miss Kobayashi is unwilling to let her go so easily, and fights to restore the bond between Kanna and Kamui. Meanwhile, Iruru discovers a hidden force that manipulates the conflict from the shadows. Will they be able to prevent war before it destroys both worlds?

A production with a quality seal

The film is directed by Tatsuya Ishihara in the prestigious studio Kyoto Animationwith script by Yuka Yamada and character designs by Miku Kadowakiwho also serves as animation director. The original manga is the work of Coolkyousinnjya and is published in Japan under the label Action Manga by Futabasha. In the West, the work is licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment.

With a balance between comedy, action and drama, this new cinematographic installment of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid proves that even lonely dragons can find their place in the hearts of the public.
