An otaku grandfather was scammed in Japan

A 62 -year -old man from Fukuoka, Japanhe was the victim of a quite rare scam, where he lost no less than 15 million yen (almost 100 thousand dollars). According to the police, the man, who was unemployed, received a request for monitoring in social networks from a woman's account. After accepting, they redirected it to another place where they offered to earn money to see anime. Yes, they told him that he could earn money just for looking at series!

It turns out that the website to which he was taken by passed through a famous anime producer and asked him to pay a “membership quota” and “copyright.” Convinced that he was dealing with a legitimate company, the man ended up transferring more than 15 million yen in payments to different accounts for two months. It was the bank, noting the suspicious transfers, who alerted the police and uncovered all the fraud.

The man told the police that he trusted because he thought it was a real system of a large anime company. However, what seemed like an easy opportunity proved to be a well -planned scam. This type of fraud is not something new. Fukuoka police reported that Last year there were 849 cases of telephone frauds that added 2.33 billions of yen, and 664 cases of fraud through social networks that caused losses for a total of 6.94 billion yen.

The authorities in Japan have urged everyone to be cautious when they are offered “offers” too good to be trueand the comments were not long:

  • «I have heard of audience surveys that give you a few thousands of yen, but does anyone really believe that there is something as good as this? What a laugh!».
  • «The grandfather has money, huh?».
  • «How funny that no one helped him until the bank reported it».
  • «How embarrassing to see a fan fan of anime, better to see something more classic».
  • «I work in Minato-Ku and I see people with limitations that live in skyscrapers just because they were lucky with their family or situation».
  • «How is it possible that this fool had 15 million yen? What madness!».
  • «Please take off the Internet to this grandfather, protect those who don't know anything about these scams».
