A live-action series based on the manga is currently airing in Japan “My Tiny Senpai (Uchi no Kaisha no Chiisai Senpai no Hanashi)”, a story that you probably already know because it was adapted to the anime in Summer-2023 (July-September) by the studies Project No. 9. Unfortunately for those who enjoyed it, a sequel has yet to be announced. However, what brings us together today is not the anime adaptation, but the live-action series (known as “dramas”, or “doramas” due to their Japanese pronunciation).
In the story, specifically in the fourth episode of the anime, Chinatsu Hayakawa (a secondary character), The protagonist's childhood friend is discovered cosplaying a character by Chihiro Akina, the object of her affection. She has had a crush on him since she first met him, but because she is a tsundere, she never reveals it to him. In fact, even his otaku hobbies and taste for cosplay were kept secret back then. In the anime adaptation, Chinatsu appeared in a cosplay based on “Azur Lane”:

However, things in the live-action got much spicier. Instead of this cosplay, Chinatsu will appear cosplaying herself. Utena Hiiragi, better known as “Magia Baiser”, the protagonist of the popular ecchi anime “Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete (Gushing over Magical Girls)”.

This detail became even more viral after the official Twitter account for the desecrated magical girl franchise shared the information. But what do both franchises have to do with each other? Well, it turns out that both original mangas are published by the publisher Takeshobo, so it is much easier to introduce direct references to other stories that are published by the same company. (for example, when “Gintama” references other Shueisha mangas).
It was certainly a surprise for Internet users, exciting those waiting for the second season of “Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete” and saddening those who assume that “My Tiny Senpai” will never have a sequel.
