The producer Kakao Entertainment officially confirmed that the Chugong and DUBU franchise, “Solo Leveling“, will have a live-action series adaptation. Although the statement did not reveal production details, the company confirmed that it is involved in the planning, development and, mainly, the writing of the scripts.
It should be remembered that the creative director of D&C WEBTOON, Heaeun Kwakhad revealed that a live-action project for the franchise was in development, but this is the first time it has been officially confirmed.
For its part, Chugong published the original novels through KakaoPage between July 2016 and March 2018, with a total of fourteen volumes. A webtoon adaptation was published since March 2018 through KakaoPage by the hand of Jang Sung-rak and ended in December 2021. An anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures premiered its first season in Winter-2024 (January-March)followed by a second season, titled as “Arise from the Shadow“, currently broadcast.
Synopsis of Solo Leveling
Since a portal appeared that connects our world to another full of monsters and creatures of all kinds, some people have acquired powers and the ability to hunt them, obtaining the name of hunters. The protagonist, Sung Jin-woo, is the weakest of the E-rank hunters and barely stronger than a normal human. He is nicknamed by his fellow hunters as “the weakest.” One day, he and others find themselves trapped in an extremely dangerous dungeon, and only a few survive and manage to escape. Sung Jin-woo himself barely survives and is the only one who completes all the tests in this dungeon, becoming a “player”, now being able to see an interface that shows him missions, statistics, inventory, stores and levels. Will he manage to level up to become the most powerful hunter?
