The popular manga series “Gotoubun no Hanayome (The Quintessential Quintuplets)” by Negi Haruba will receive a new theatrical adaptation in March 2025, in which the Fourth-generation members of idol group Hinatazaka46 will play the Nakano Quintuplets sisters. The work will be presented at the Stella Ball at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo, from March 8 to 23. The production, officially titled “Butai Gotoubun no Hanayome”, will integrate musical and choreographic numbers in addition to the dramatic script, fusing elements typical of “2.5-dimensional” musicals.

Gotoubun no Hanayome is a romantic comedy manga that follows the story of five sisters, whose academic grades are a disaster, and their peculiar relationship with their private tutor, Futaro Uesugi, who helps them improve in their studies and, over time, becomes the center of their love interests. Serialized in the magazine Weekly Shonen Magazine Between 2017 and 2020, the work achieved enormous success, exceeding 20 million copies in circulation and winning the Kodansha Award for Best Manga in 2019 in the Shonen category.
In addition, the manga has had anime, film, and video game adaptations, cementing its place as one of the most beloved romantic comedy franchises of recent years in Japan. This new stage adaptation expands the legacy of Gotoubun no Hanayome into the realm of mixed media, and fans are already eager to see how the talents of the Hinatazaka46 members will bring the iconic quintuplets to life on stage. Cast and production team
To play the Nakano sisters, a system of double and triple casting has been organized among the Hinatazaka46 idols, so that different actresses will assume the main roles in different functions. Thus, for the role of the older sister, Ichika Nakano, those chosen are Nanami Konishi and Kirari Takeuchi, while the character of Nino Nakano, the second sister, will be played by Tamaki Ishizuka and Rio Shimizu. The third sister, Miku Nakano, will be led by Sumire Miyachi and Rina Watanabe. Yotsuba Nakano, the fourth sister, will be portrayed by a trio of actresses: Yoko Shogenji, Honoka Hirao and Kaho Fujishima. Finally, the role of the youngest, Itsuki Nakano, will fall to Mitsuki Hiraoka and Haruka Yamashita.
The project has the experienced Akira Yamazaki in the direction and scriptwho has worked on multiple “2.5 dimensional” theater productions such as “Diamond no Ace The Musical” and “HUNTER x HUNTER THE STAGE.” The musical direction will be supervised by Takuya Kusunosewhile the choreography will be by Yuki Nodamember of the Umebou group, specialist in staging.
