A live-action Sousou no Frieren goes viral

In a surprising collaboration between artificial intelligences “Stable Diffusion“, “Midjourney“, “Stable Video Diffusion” and “Pika Labs“, a live-action version of the popular franchise has been released “Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End)”. Despite the expectation generated, the video has provoked mixed reactions due to the apparent lack of fluidity in the characters’ movements.

The “Sousou no Frieren” franchise has gained great popularity thanks to its anime adaptation currently broadcast, produced by Madhouse. The story, centered on Frieren, an immortal elf who lives beyond the end of her journey to defeat the Demon King, has captivated fans with its unique narrative and endearing characters.

Although the character designs in the live-action version are praised for their fidelity and visual quality, the lack of naturalness in the movements has generated discussion. Viewers point out that, despite the convincing appearance of digital actors, the movements are crude and crude, revealing the current limitations of artificial intelligence in producing realistic video sequences.

Despite the debate surrounding the live-action video, Madhouse’s adaptation continues to be well received by fans of “Sousou no Frieren.” The anime series has maintained its popularity thanks to its immersive plot, high-quality animation, and faithful representation of the manga world:

  • «It seems that the AI cannot draw scenes with two or more characters».
  • «In some parts it’s pretty good, but in others it’s pretty bad.».
  • «Only Aura seems to me to have the right design.».
  • «Wow, that’s pretty rubbish what I’m seeing. AIs are not ready yet».
  • «I feel uncomfortable seeing this kind of thing. They look like Japanese cosplaying, when the series is not like that».
  • «At times I thought the designs were extremely good. We must stop thinking that all live-action is bad, it is impossible to perfectly reflect the designs of a manga in a live-action. AI presents this proposal, and I think it is unbeatable».
  • «The elf looks like something out of Final Fantasy, I think the characters should not have a Japanese appearance».
  • «Very bright illustrations with high contrast, as always. AIs will be better when they fix this problem».
  • «Why are all the faces Asian?».
  • «Their faces change with each of their movements.».
  • «The evolution of AIs is undeniable, I wouldn’t be surprised if AIs start making CG animated movies very soon».
  • «Once you get used to how the AI illustrations look, you can notice the slight changes in each movement».
  • «You guys don’t understand it. Although with this level of quality, a single person could produce a live-action of whatever they want.».
  • «An actor would make the movements and the AI would only be in charge of putting his face on the model. That would be the path that cinema would take if it wants to involve AIs».
