Animals take longer to have sequelae

There was a time when waiting for a new anime season was not torture, but now it is almost a miracle that a series returns in less than three years. It is increasingly common for continuations to take an eternity to leave, but the patience of fans is getting smaller. For example, “Fire Force” will return in spring-2025 (April-June) with its third season, five years after the second! Or “One Punch Man” that took three years to return, just to change study and become a disaster.

Before, an anime used to return in one or two years. Series like “Naruto“,”Bleach” and “Dragon Ball“They had a constant rhythm, while recent titles like”Haikyu !!” either “My hero academy”They maintained a fairly predictable schedule with respect to their sequelae. But now, every announcement of a new season does not even include the estimated release date. SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN“It took four years between her first and second season, and”Re: Zero”He did the same and when he finally returned, he had lost much of his fans base. AND “NO GAME NO LIFE” No one knows what happened to that series, but surely the second season will not be as successful as the first.

The problem is not only that anime need more time to look good, but there are many other factors behind: overloaded work studies, impossible calendars, lack of original material to adapt, and in some cases, studies simply abandon a series for Focus on the next hit of the moment.

Many people believe that the wait increases the hype through the franchise, but the reality is that that no longer applies in the era of streaming, where if it takes too long to return, people simply forget you. When an anime like “Jujutsu Kaisen” or “Chainsaw Man” is in broadcast, it is on the mouth of everyone, it generates crazy theories and sells merchandise as hot bread, but when it spends a lot of time without news, the interest cools.

Above, the binge-watching (wait and see all the episodes of a jalon) and the algorithms of streaming platforms do not help. Before the anime looked weekly on television, so the public remained expectation for weeks. But now people prefer to wait for the series to end and then see it in Marathon. And if the continuation takes too long to leave, the anime is buried under lots and lots of new premieres.

But not only fans lose, but also the anime industry. Unlike the Western series that survive that people look at them in streaming services, anime depends greatly on the sale of related merchandise. And if a series disappears for years, their income falls to zero. That is why anime today survives maintaining a constant flow of content, such as compilation films (did you think it was a coincidence?). Thus they make sure the hype alive and remain relevant while a continuation occurs.

And now there is a dilemma: on the one hand the studies know that if they take too long, their anime will be forgotten. But on the other, the current system makes it impossible to get new seasons immediately (Unless the “second parts” as “second seasons”) are dodged. With so many new anime coming out every season, no matter how successful an anime, people will always find another series to see.
