The manga “Dandadan“Keep sweepingand with the success of his anime (which, by the way, has already confirmed his second season for summer-2025), Its creator, Yukinobu Tatsu, has shared interesting details about his creative process and what he enjoys most. When asked about a scene that is particularly memorable, the author did not hesitate to mention the abduction of a cow for a UFO. For him, that moment was special because he felt that everything fit perfectly in history. And it is not for less: when this scene was adapted to the anime, the combination of the absurd and the epic. In the end, part of the manga charm is how it can happen to a completely ridiculous situation and make it relevant within the story.

On his work routine, Tatsu said he works completely alone, since, after pandemic, all his attendees do their share remotely. And while many mangakas use latest electronic tablets and software, he remains faithful to the basics: paper and pen. This says a lot about his style and the way he connects with his work, because in an industry where technology does not stop moving forward, he continues to stick to the simple.

But if there is something that the author is particularly proud, it is from Momo Ayase. In fact, he considers her her favorite character and confesses that if she feels that she has not drawn her pretty enough, she erases and draws again and again until she is satisfied. For him, Momo is like Superman, not because of his powers, but because of the way he inspires others. He explained that what Superman does a true hero is not his strength, but the fact that his existence motivates others, the same effect that Momo has in the history of “dandadan.”

Another key manga point is the wide variety of paranormal creatures that appear in history. Where does the author get the inspiration for them? It turns out that, although he is Japanese, he continues to discover new things about his culture. Continue to investigate and deepen Japanese myths and legends, choosing the elements that most attract attention to incorporate them into history.

And as for the way in which he builds history, Tatsu explained that he does not like to separate the plot arches rigidly. He prefers that everything flows naturally, since the story follows the personal growth of the protagonists. Every problem they face is not only an obstacle to overcome, but directly influences what will come later. In addition, he commented that he likes to reflect current social problems within the manga and that, in a certain way, the Yokai can be seen as victims of the circumstances of his time.

From the way he develops his characters to the dedication he puts in every detail of the manga, it is clear that “Dandadan” is not just one more series: it is a project in which each scene, each creature and each narrative decision have a purpose. Now we just have to wait to see which follies will bring us in the future.
